U.S. Senate Environment and Public Works Subcommittee on Clean Air and Nuclear Safety meets for hearings to examine cleaner vehicles, focusing on consumers and public health.

EU Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Energy) meets to discuss: 1- Ministers will seek a general approach on the gas and hydrogen package, which includes a proposal for a directive and a proposal for a regulation on common internal market rules for renewable and natural gases and hydrogen. 2- The proposals seek to facilitate the penetration of renewable and low-carbon gases into the energy system, enabling a shift away from natural gas and to allow for these new gases to play their role towards the goal of EU climate neutrality in 2050. 3- EU energy ministers will seek a political agreement on a proposal to extend a Council regulation on a voluntary reduction of natural gas demand by 15% ahead of winter. Under the proposal, the voluntary 15% gas demand reduction target would be maintained until March 2024. 4- Ministers will hold a first policy debate on a proposal to revise the EU electricity market design. The proposal aims to make the EU energy market more resilient and stable, to shield consumers and companies from short-term electricity price volatility, and to drive investments into renewable energies.

he IMF’s latest World Economic Outlook (WEO) highlights a rocky recovery. China will report its GDP where retail sales, industrial production and investment details will be important to monitor. Canada will report on house price, retail sales, producer price and consumer prices. U.S. first quarter earnings will be released. Brazilian industrial production will be released. Interest rate decisions are expected in Indonesia (currently at 5.75%), Uruguay (currently at 11.50%), and Chile, Poland, and South Africa will give hints on inflation. UK (10.4%) and Poland inflation are increasing while U.S. (5%), France, Spain and Germany are decreasing. G7 Energy, Climate and Environment ministers meet on Sunday in Japan with a focus on coal-fired power generation. Flash Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) will provide assessments of business for the second quarter in the US, Eurozone, UK, Japan and Australia.
