In Nairobi, Kenya, the fourth meeting of the intersessional process considering the Strategic Approach and the Sound Management of Chemicals and Waste Beyond 2020 (IP4) is scheduled to take place from 27 February to 3 March 2023. It also happened in Bucharest, Romania from 29 August to 2 September 2022. This meeting and the previous meeting support stakeholders in their efforts to elaborate future arrangements of the strategic approach and sound management of chemicals and waste beyond 2020 for consideration and adoption at the next session of the International Conference on Chemicals Management (ICCM5).

UN 2023 Water Conference – formally known as the 2023 Conference for the Midterm Comprehensive Review of Implementation of the UN Decade for Action on Water and Sanitation (2018-2028) – which will take place at UN Headquarters in New York, 22-24 March 2023, co-hosted by Tajikistan and the Netherlands.

European Parliament – Green deal/Fluorinated greenhouse gas: the Environment Committee will adopt its position on draft legislation aiming to further reduce the use of fluorinated greenhouse gas (F-gas). F-gases are human-made chemicals that are very strong greenhouse gases (GHG), often several thousand times stronger than carbon dioxide (CO2). They are used in common appliances such as refrigerators, air-conditioning, heat pumps, fire protection, foams and aerosols. Fluorinated greenhouse gases, amending Directive (EU) 2019/1937 and repealing Regulation (EU) No 517/2014 (2022/0099(COD)) – adoption of draft report – rapporteur: Bas EICKHOUT (the Greens/EFA, NL) – and- Substances that deplete the ozone layer and repealing Regulation (EC) No 1005/2009 (2022/0100(COD)) – adoption of draft report – rapporteur: Jessica POLFJÄRD (EPP, SE). US consumer confidence, construction spending, and home sales will be released this week. China will publish its manufacturing and non-manufacturing Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) and Caixin manufacturing PMI. Japan’s industrial production will be announced. Fourth quarter GDP Australia, Czech Republic, Hungary, India and Turkey will also be released. Inflation data from Colombia, Indonesia and Peru will be announced. Recession fears are subsiding in the eurozone and UK. European countries have successfully boosted the supply of gas coming from Norway and Algeria as well as LNG coming from the United States and Qatar. Japan and Australia show mild demand. The Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) for the ASEAN bloc will be released as well.
